The Bump membership

Private community and structured support for women pursuing solo motherhood in Australia and New Zealand.

When you decide to have a baby on your own — as a solo mum by choice or a single woman using a sperm donor — the world often assumes that certainty is enough.

You’ve made the decision. You’re capable. You’re independent.

And you are.

Independence does not eliminate the need for community, and capability does not lessen the significance of doing something this life-defining largely on your own.

The Bump exists for this stage of the journey — the moment you decide to pursue solo motherhood, the months of trying to conceive, the cycles, the appointments, the pregnancy that follows. It is designed for women in Australia and New Zealand who are building their families intentionally and want steady, informed support alongside them while they do it.

This is not a general fertility forum, nor is it a parenting group built around couples. It is a private, paid community created specifically for women who are choosing motherhood on their own terms and want the right support from the very beginning (many members say they wish they had joined earlier).

Who The Bump Is Designed For

The Bump is for women who have made the decision to pursue solo motherhood and are either trying to conceive or already pregnant.

You may be finalising sperm donor decisions, navigating artificial insemination, IUI or IVF, or managing fertility treatment entirely independently. You may already be pregnant, preparing for birth without a partner beside you. What unites members at this stage is not circumstance, but intentionality — and the desire for informed guidance rather than endless online searching.

Many women join before they are pregnant, because this is often when the decisions feel largest and the silence feels most pronounced. There is a particular kind of strength required at this stage — not dramatic strength, but steady strength. The kind that benefits from conversation, perspective and proximity to other women walking the same path.

What Makes This Different

Your friends may be supportive. Some may have experienced fertility treatment themselves. But unless they have chosen to have a baby on their own, navigated sperm donor decisions within the Australian or New Zealand legal framework, or attended appointments without a partner beside them, they will not fully understand the nuance of this experience.

The Bump brings together women at precisely the same point in the journey — not years ahead, not years behind, but navigating similar timelines, similar decisions and similar responsibility in real time.

Women who are in it now — weighing similar decisions, managing similar timelines, carrying similar responsibility.

That proximity creates reassurance in a way information alone cannot.

Fortnightly Connection Calls

At the heart of The Bump are the fortnightly live connection calls.

These are relaxed, conversational Zoom sessions where members gather to discuss what is unfolding in real time — treatment cycles, pregnancy appointments, decision-making, emotional steadiness, preparation for birth and everything in between.

The calls are not recorded. They are intentionally private and present. This allows space for honesty without performance and for questions that may not belong in a public forum.

Some members speak often. Others prefer to listen. Both are welcome.

Over time, these calls become more than a check-in; they become an anchor. A reminder that you are not the only woman making these decisions or carrying this responsibility. As well as the start of beautiful lifelong friendships.

Private WhatsApp Community

Alongside the live calls, members are personally added to a private WhatsApp community organised by stage.

You are placed into:

  • the main Bump community

  • a smaller group aligned to where you are (trying to conceive or stage of pregnancy)

This structure keeps conversations relevant and manageable. Participation is flexible. You can engage daily, check in occasionally, or simply observe and absorb.

The intention is not constant noise. It is accessible connection when you need it.

Practical Structure & Support

While The Bump is first and foremost a community, it also provides practical structure.

Members receive a 20% discount across all Solo Mum Society programs — from structured education to live workshops and personalised coaching. This includes stage-specific courses such as Expecting Solo and Preparing for Solo Motherhood, allowing you to move seamlessly from conception to birth preparation with continuity of support.

Members also have access to curated solo-mum-specific resources, including birth planning templates, logistics tools and preparation guides designed specifically for women navigating this stage without a partner.

The intention is not to overwhelm you with material, but to reduce decision fatigue and help you move forward with clarity.

Why The Bump Exists

Much of the fertility and pregnancy world is structured around couples. Even well-meaning professionals can default to systems and language that assume two parents.

Solo motherhood by choice is different. It involves deliberate planning, long-term thinking, financial responsibility and emotional leadership from the outset.

The Bump exists because women who choose this path deserve support that reflects that reality.

It is not built on sympathy or rescue, but on recognition — recognition of the courage it took to make this decision and the responsibility you carry as you follow it through.

Support that recognises the courage it took to make this decision and provides steady reinforcement while you carry it through.
